Membership Update: February 2021

We are six weeks into 2021 and with the hard work of residents complying with public health measures in the National Capital Region we are starting to see the easing of some restrictions, including the Stay At Home order coming to an end. The CUPE 503 Executive wanted to take a moment and thank each and every one of our members for your contributions to our communities. Living and working during the COVID-19 pandemic has been very difficult. The added pressures each and every day are overwhelming at times, however your contributions do not go unnoticed. We thank you for your commitment to helping our communities run and we continue to work on behalf of our members to ensure workplaces and protocols maintain the health and safety of our membership.

City of Ottawa Inside Outside Collective Agreement Bargaining

On February 9,10, 11 2021 the CUPE 503 bargaining team and the employer met with the goal of reaching a negotiated settlement. On February 11th the CUPE 503 Bargaining Team informed the employer that the parties remain too far apart on key issues to the membership and the Union would take the next step of filing for Conciliation. The Ministry of Labour will appoint a Conciliator to meet with the parties to work toward a negotiated agreement and in the event an agreement can not be reached we will proceed to arbitration. The CUPE 503 Executive wants to recognize the hard work of the bargaining team over the last 6 months. Your leadership and commitment to the membership has been unwavering.
