Membership Update: May 2021

CUPE 503 Office Operations

Our 503 Office Operations continue with staff working from home. Staff are available to provide services to members seamlessly and can be reached by calling our general office number at 613-230-2456 or you can email [email protected]. If you require a Shop Steward for representation meetings please contact Heather at our office and she can connect you with a steward. The Officers continue to rotate through the office due to the current Stay At Home Order.

CUPE 503 Members Telephone Town Hall – June 17th at 7pm

On Tuesday, April 27th 2021 at 7pm your Executive hosted a CUPE 503 Membership Telephone Town Hall. There were 75 members in attendance and we have decided to do another one on Thursday, June 17th at 7pm. A new communication will be going out to all members to register for the telephone town hall.

City of Ottawa Inside Outside Collective Agreement Bargaining

The Arbitration Date for the parties to present is set for June 1st 2021. We hope to have an award back from the Arbitrator within 2-3 months given this will also be happening over a peak vacation period.

City of Clarence Rockland Collective Agreement Bargaining

The City of Clarence Rockland Bargaining Team and the employer reached a tentative agreement and last Thursday that agreement was ratified by the members. The Local has communicated with the employer that the members voted in favour of ratification. 

Ottawa Public Library Collective Agreement Bargaining

Bargaining is well underway with Ottawa Public Library and there are dates scheduled for the end of May and we are now looking for dates in June as well.

City of Ottawa Part-time Recreation & Culture Collective Agreement Bargaining

Our Bargaining Team has been established and will be reconvening later this week to start the final preparation to go forward with the survey to the members in the PT Rec collective agreement. 

Embassy West Retirement Residence

The CUPE 503 Embassy West Bargaining Team met with the employer for a few dates the end of April and we are now moving forward with Conciliation and hoping for a date for the later part of May or Early June.

Forrest Hill 

The Bargaining team met with the employer the end of April for two dates and we are now booking dates for June.

Sandfield Place

Bargaining commenced with two dates May 10th and 17th with a provincially appointed Conciliator. The Union followed through with filing a No Board report yesterday and we now are working on funding dates for an Arbitration.

Champlain Ontario Health and Home & Community Care Support Services

Ontario Health has provided information to CUPE National that they would not be ready to start bargaining with the central table at least until June and there continues to be discussions about the scope of the central table issues. The Local will be bringing back more information to the members once we have a clear idea of what Ontario Health is proposing for the members to decide on how we will proceed.

CUPE 503 Communications

The 503 Executive Council has adopted a communications plan for late spring and summer of 2021. It has 8 prongs to try to communicate better with the membership through a number of different methods and it will be rolled out in the coming weeks. Stay tuned. In the interim Members are asked to provide their PERSONAL Email Address to Heather to be added to our database at [email protected].
