National Day of Mourning 28 April 2020

Every year on April 28th the labour movement, families and friends pause to observe the National Day of Mourning for workers who have lost their lives from workplace illnesses and injuries.

This past year, on August 19th 2019 CUPE 503 member Michel Ethier lost his life in a tragic workplace injury at the very start of his shift.

The City of Ottawa retired the truck that was Michel’s workplace in his memory and CUPE 503 wishes to acknowledge the difficult times Michel’s family and coworkers have had mourning the loss of his life.

The National Day of Mourning is the day we recommit to fight for safe working conditions for every worker in every work place and remember those who have lost their lives in these tragic circumstances.
