Membership Update: February 2022

Office Operations:

Our 503 Office has returned to staff being in the office on a rotational basis with a full return mid-March. Staff are available to provide services to members seamlessly and can be reached by calling our general office number at 613-230-2456 or you can email [email protected]. If you require a Shop Steward for representation meetings please contact our office and Heather connect you with a steward. 

Bargaining Updates:

Ottawa Public Library Collective Agreement: 

On Monday, January 31st your Bargaining Team was able to reach a tentative agreement with the Employer after lengthy negotiations. Members should expect to receive the summary document and ballot in their Canada Post Mailboxes on or about February 28th. There will be a registration process detailed in the mailing for 3 Zoom OPL Membership Meetings to be held Monday, March 7th, and the deadline for ballots to be received is Noon in Wednesday, March 16th 2022.

City of Ottawa Part-time Recreation & Culture:

The Union and the Employer continue negotiations and had two dates mid-January and are working to secure additional dates in the upcoming weeks. 

Sandfield Place Long Term Care: 

An Arbitration date has been scheduled for May 27th 2022.

Forest Hill Long Term Care:

An Arbitration date has been scheduled for February 17th 2022.

Champlain Ontario Health HCCSS (formally Champlain LHINS):

The bargaining survey that will inform the Bargaining Team of the members priorities for the Local table has been completed and the Bargaining Team will be pulled together early in the New Year to review the results and start to develop proposals. We do not yet have confirmed dates from the Employer for the Local Table.

Ottawa Community Housing:

Bargaining has commenced with 6 days having taken place thus far and 3 additional days scheduled at the end of February. Stay tuned for an update come March.

March General Membership Meeting – Tuesday, March 15th 2022 7pm:

With COVID-19 public health restrictions easing we are going to have an in-person General Membership meeting on Tuesday, March 15th 2022 at 7pm. To allow for more space for members we have booked the Clark Hall at the RA Centre located at 2451 Riverside Drive. Posters promoting the meeting will be distributed to our Shop Stewards and Member Ambassadors for posting as well as an email communication with the details.

CUPE 503 Website & Membership Emails:

We will continue to use the website for monthly membership updates on bargaining and office operations. Building our membership email reach is a key priority and we encourage all members to provide their PERSONAL email to Heather at [email protected].
