Bargaining Updates:
City of Ottawa Inside Outside Collective Agreement Printing:
On January 10th 2023 CUPE 503 signed off on the quote for the printing of the Collective Agreement. The Employer has now provided us with a print proof to review before they run the large print run. This will be completed before April 21st 2023. Once the new booklets arrive at the 503 Office we will provide an update to the members. City of Ottawa Part-time Recreation & Culture Collective Agreement Arbitration:
We received the final Arbitration Award last Friday (March 17th 2023) on all other outstanding matters from the Arbitrator that were presented December 16th 2022. We hosted a Meeting for members on April 5th to review the final Arbitration Award. We are now working on a final draft of the updated Collective Agreement with the Employer to be able to post it on the CUPE 503 website.
City of Ottawa Aquatics:
After several bargaining dates the Union has filed for Conciliation because the Bargaining Team feels bargaining has broken down with the Employer. A Ministry of Labour Conciliation Officer has been appointed and the parties have set May 23rd 2023 for the Conciliation date.
Ottawa Public Library Collective Agreement:
The Union received a quote for the printing of the Collective Agreement from the Employer on Thursday, March 16th 2023 and it was approved the same day. The Employer is now advancing the printing to the vendor and when we receive copies we will provide an update to the members.
Forrest Hill Long Term Care:
The first date of bargaining was February 28th 2023. Negotiations have broken down and a Ministry of Labour Conciliation Officer was appointed, the No Board was issued and this round of negotiations will be proceeding to Interest arbitration for resolution.
Embassy West Retirement Residence:
Embassy West CUPE 503 Members have completed their Bargaining Survey and the Bargaining Team met for their first prep day to review the survey results and start developing proposals. Members will be invited to a Ratification of Demands Meeting once the first date of bargaining is confirmed with the Employer.
Ottawa Sports & Entertainment Group:
Ratification of Demands meetings were held April 17th with our members at OSEG and the first date of bargaining has been scheduled to exchange proposals on Thursday, April 20th 2023.
Sandfield Place Long Term Care
Sandfield Place CUPE 503 Members have completed their Bargaining Survey and the Bargaining Team has their first prep day on April 19th 2023 to review the survey results and start developing proposals. Members will receive information on an upcoming Ratification of Demands meeting scheduled for mid-June 2023.
Other Bargaining in the coming months:
The Local will be pulling together a Bargaining Team and Member Survey for the Ottawa Humane Society as this Collective Agreement will have a table convened in late Spring of 2023.

National Day Of Mourning – April 28th 2023
Each year on April 28th the Ottawa Labour Council hosts the National Day of Mourning Ceremony at Vincent Massey Park at 12:30 noon. This is the day that Unions Across the country mourn members who have lost their lives on the job and recommit to fighting for the living.
